Modal Architecture is a high-performance, sustainable, and lifestyle architectural design firm specialising in residential projects around New Zealand. Our homes are designed to make the best use of natural light, ventilation, and energy efficiency, while still looking good. Our team is passionate about creating environmentally friendly homes that meet the needs of our clients – from everyday kiwi families to busy professionals or retirees. We believe that good architecture should be accessible to everyone, and our mission is to make quality homes accessible and sustainable for kiwi’s.
Our kiwi founder started his career in New Zealand's largest multi-disciplinary practice. Starting his career working on the Southern Response Housing Initiative to rebuild Christchurch homes affected by the 2011 Christchurch earthquake honed his renovation skills and gave him experience across a large number of design styles in a short period.
Since then, he has gone on to work across all scales, from Wellington Central Apartments, a design and build start-up, to another architectural start-up that honed its skills and created high-quality medium-density housing in the Wellington Region.
All in all - his experience has led to creating several established relationships with building companies and consultants around the country. These nationwide relationships have helped reduce time spent coordinating, replacing this with well-understood workflows across a range of disciplines and councils in New Zealand.
