Unusual Christmas Marketing Ideas

You're fed up with (and so are your customers) the traditional social media posts, blogs and newsletters of Christmas marketing. It's time for something else, but you just can't think of what to do. That's where we come in, because we've gathered up some of the more unusual Christmas marketing ideas for you.

7 Strange Christmas Marketing Ideas

As a smaller business, you don't have the people power, nor the marketing budget to go all out wild and crazy with your Christmas marketing. So we've had to tame down our ideas to make them doable, yet still in the crazy theme...

  1. Night in a shop - spend 24 hours in a shop window or similar area. Keep everyone updated on social media, but you'll also capture the attention of those passing by and the deliberate visitors. Make sure you have your product present.
  2. Stickers giveaway - who stands outside and gives out stickers to pedestrians nowadays? No one. Be the weird one who gives away stickers and where you are allowed to, sticks them down on things.
  3. Invite only - great for launching new products or a storewide sale, an invitation only area on your website will engage the fear of missing out for your customers.
  4. Use your product at an event - if you are selling toy cars for example, push them along the local footpath for 5km, updating on social media and gaining the attention of people going by at the same time. Or for a face wash, create a face washing event.
  5. Create a story - you've most likely got a business and product story. Now's the time to put them both together and tell them in different ways. It could be a play, in a live video, in an infographic or via microphone at the park. It's not just the story that counts, its how you present it too.
  6. Be a teacher - teach your audience something funny, weird or different to get their attention, and include your product somewhere in the lesson. The lesson could be held anywhere and streamed online. Why not go somewhere like a coffee shop, shopping centre, park or library to host it. You can advertise it beforehand, or simply show up and start teaching.
  7. Start a challenge - think of a challenge that people could easily do and then share on social media. Ideally it should include your product or promote your brand. Something like, how long can you balance on one leg while putting on your makeup, or how fast can you tie your shoe laces?

Adding a Touch of Christmas to Your Marketing

You will notice that these seven unique marketing ideas are not Christmas related, and could be used year round. That means we need to add a touch of Christmas to each. This could be done using Christmas music and decorations, dressing for the holiday season in an over exaggerated way, Chrismasfy your brand logo, using seasonal tools such as ribbon and wrapping paper, talking about Christmas and using Christmas graphics where possible.
